Positive behaviour support (PBS) is a collaborative, assessment-based process to develop effective, individualized interventions for persons with challenging behaviour. Based on the principles of ABA and other empirically validated interventions, PBS leads to support plans that focus on proactive and educative interventions. This service is most suitable for families who find daily routines (e.g., having a meal at the dining table, putting your child to bed, etc.) other families take for granted challenging.

PBS is initiated with functional behaviour assessments (FBA), which may include an ecological assessment, functional behaviour interview (FAI), functional behaviour observation (FAO), and functional analysis (FA) if necessary. Based on the assessment results, the behaviour consultant will collaborate with the people involved (e.g., parents, caregivers, teachers, administrators, etc.) to develop a PBS plan. Once the plan is developed, the behaviour consultant will support the implementation of the PBS plan through training, coaching, modelling, and other appropriate methods to ensure that the plan is implemented with integrity.
